Justin Swanton Receives National Block and Bridle Award

Justin Swanton received the Outstanding Junior Award from the National Block and Bridle Club in June. The award is based on Block and Bridle activities and academic successes during the 2018-19 school year. Awardees will receive an engraved clock and cash award. Microbiology Students Pursue Alternative Internships

When microbiology students lost internships due to COVID-19, one professor provided an alternative internship and microbiology students signed up for the opportunity. The internship involves cataloging topics presented in "This Week in Microbiology" an American Society for Microbiology podcast. The podcast features microbiologists discussing current research that relates to everyday life. The students listen to the podcast and categorize timely topics that faculty nationwide can use in classrooms.

ISU Theatre explores questions of identity, community through "Iowa Odyssey (or How We Got to Here)"

ISU Theatre's "Iowa Odyssey (or How We Got to Here)," a unique, locally sourced theatre collaboration about identity, community and hope, opens Friday, April 26 at Fisher Theater. Using a pastiche of narratives and new and old storytelling techniques, "Iowa Odyssey" shares real-life stories that resulted from months of local research. The production's student advance team interviewed Ames community members and ISU students, faculty and staff about their experiences of culture, identity and immigration. The team also conducted archival research on the history of immigration in Iowa.
